The course includes the following areas/subjects:
- Introduction to Cognitive Psychology
- History & methods in CP
- Issues related to the organization and working of particular senses:
- Vision
- Mechanical and Chemical Senses
- Audition
- The role of context in perception & perception errors
- Attention
- Organization and functioning of a memory:
- Sensory memory and Short Term Memory (STM)
- Working memory
- Long Term Memory (LTM) - declarative and non-declarative memory
- Common memory errors
- Visual imagery
- Decision making
- Reasoning
Total student workload
Teacher's hours:
- contact hours – 30 h
- consulting with teacher - 10 h (non-mandatory)
Student’s individual work :
- preparing for classes (reading texts) - 20 h
- preparing for the exam - 40 h
100 h in total = 4 ECTS
Learning outcomes - knowledge
The student knows and understands the role of the mind in basic cognitive processes: attention, perception, memory & learning, thinking and decision making.
The student knows the brain organization of these processes.
The student can analyze, evaluate, and compare major theories in cognitive psychology.
The student knows and understands research methods in cognitive psychology, the strengths and weaknesses of these methods, and how these methods are being integrated with neuroscience.
Learning outcomes - skills
As a result of the course, the student is able to critically study scientific literature in the field of cognition, draw conclusions on the basis of research results, discuss with them and ask questions resulting from the available literature and study results.
The student is able to find data on interesting topic in the area of widely understood cognitive psychology.
The student uses the terminology of cognitive psychology adequately

Assessment criteria
The final grade will be based on the written exam. The test will contain a combination of multiple-choice, true-false and short response questions.
