Urban cultural policies and governance 2400-OG-EN-UCPaG

Main goals of the course are:
• developing basic skills in analyzing and diagnosing cultural needs in a local and institutional context.
• developing competencies in planning, organizing, and managing activities in cultural institutions.
• preparing students to work using project-based methods.
• familiarizing students with modern promotional tools used in cultural institutions.
• developing an attitude of openness and participation in working with the local community and with groups with different needs (including people with disabilities).
• familiarizing students with sustainable development activities carried out in cultural institutions.

Total student workload

Contact hours with teacher: np. - participation in discussion seminar - 20 hrs Self-study hours: np. - preparation for discussion seminar 20 hrs - reading literature- 20 hrs - preparation for test- 30 hrs Altogether: 90 hrs (3 ECTS)

Learning outcomes - knowledge

Student W1: recognizes activities for sustainable development in practice. W2: knows work organization styles in cultural institutions (including in relation to Roger Harrison's concept)

Learning outcomes - skills

Student U1: is able to distinguish between types of cultural institutions and their specific activities, U2: is capable of conduct a basic local and internal diagnosis of the institution

Learning outcomes - social competencies

Student K1: develops skills to collectively assess social issues at the local level and identify appropriate policy responses K2: can work with group.

Teaching methods

seminar lectures, workshop exercises, case study analysis, teamwork on projects, study visit

Assessment criteria

• active participation in classes (minimum 70% attendance),
• preparation and presentation of a group project – drafting an artistic project based on the SMART methodology.
• 5 (very good): the student fully meets the course objectives, demonstrates independence, creativity, and in-depth problem analysis.
• 4 (good): the student has correctly mastered the course content, completes tasks, and justifies them appropriately.
• 3 (satisfactory): the student knows the basic course content, completes tasks to a limited extent, with the instructor’s assistance.
• 2 (unsatisfactory): the student has not mastered the basic issues and has not met the formal requirements for course completion.
