Anthropological Perspective on Everyday Life 2400-OG-EN-APEL
The course gives the opportunity to view our own culture from the perspective of knowledge on other cultures, and consequently better understanding of ourselves. Anthropology studies cultural variety of humankind: by the cross-cultural approach it promotes better understanding of otherness and rejects Western ethnocentrism and provincialism.
Anthropology can be seen as an expression of fascination with cultural otherness but at the same time it is an academic inquiry into universal human traits. In the process of learning students will be acquainted with elementary notions, concepts and problems of this discipline. Moreover, the accent will be put on anthropology of the present and anthropology of the everyday life: we will deal with modern societies, local cultures, globalization, glocalization and applied anthropology.
