Specialised Care Sciences: Psychiatry and Psychiatric Nursing

Lectures:
The lecture covers issues related to: the Mental Health Protection Act; Organization of psychiatric treatment in Poland; Communicating with a patient with mental disorders; Therapeutic and non-therapeutic relationships with patients with mental disorders; Nurse's participation in diagnostic methods used in psychiatry and various forms of therapy; Nursing patients with psychotic and non-psychotic disorders; Care for patients addicted to psychoactive substances; Side effects and interactions of drugs used to treat mental disorders; Mental health promotion.
Practical:
Practical classes are intended to consolidate knowledge and develop practical skills in the field of:
Organization and specificity of a nurse's work in a psychiatric ward; Procedures for admitting a patient to a psychiatric hospital; Medical records kept in psychiatric treatment facilities; Therapeutic community; Therapeutic and non-therapeutic relationships with patients with mental disorders; Rules of conduct in case of sudden mental disorders; Standards in psychiatric nursing; The process of caring for a patient with mental disorders.
10 hours of practical classes are carried out in the Medical Simulation Center - implementation of a scenario of care for a patient with mental disorders (nursing and therapeutic problems resulting from psychopharmacotherapy).
