Specialist Nursing Care Sciences: Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Obstetric and Gynaecological Nursing 1855-P2-PPOLO-S1

The subject is carried out in the form of lectures, practical classes, self-education and professional practice.
The lectures are intended to familiarize the student with the principles of care for the mother in labor and newborns during childbirth and puerperium in accordance with the currently applicable standards. Practical classes are aimed at acquiring skills in providing maternity care in normal situations and in selected states of pregnancy pathology. After completing the professional practice, the student will be prepared to provide health services for a woman giving birth, a newborn and a woman in labour in accordance with the nursing process.

Total student workload

1. Hours with teachers: - participation in lectures: 5h - participation in practical classes: 40h - consultation with the teacher – 1h - conducting of exam: 1h 2. time spent on the student's individual work: - self-study preparation: 10h - reading the indicated literature: 5h 3. Time required to prepare to participate in the assessment process: - preparation for passing: 8h 4. Balance of student workload of a practical nature: - mid-year internship: 20 h. The total student workload is 90 hours, which corresponds to 3.5 ECTS points

Learning outcomes - knowledge

In terms of skills, the graduate: U1: is able to collect information, formulate a nursing diagnosis, set goals and a nursing care plan, implement nursing interventions and evaluate nursing care; (D.U1) U2: is able to provide counseling in the field of self-care of patients of different age and health state regarding developmental defects, diseases and addictions; (D.U2) U3: is able to prevent complications occurring in the course of diseases; (D.U3) U4: is able to administer temporary oxygen to the patient and monitor his condition during oxygen therapy; (D.U9) U5: is able to prepare the patient physically and mentally for diagnostic tests; (D.U12) U6: is able to issuea referral for specific diagnostic testsh; (D.U13) U7: is able to prepare records of prescription forms of medical substances as part of treatment continuation; (D.U14) U8: is able to document the patient's health situation, the dynamics of its changes and provided nursing care, including IT tools for data collection; (D.U15) U9: is able to recognize complications of pharmacological, dietary, rehabilitation and therapeutic-care treatment; (D.U18) U10: is able conduct a therapeutic conversation; (D.U20) U11: is able to provide information about the patient's health to the members of the therapeutic team; (D.U22) U12: is able to assist a doctor during diagnostic tests; (D.U23) U13: is able to assess the level of pain, the patient's reaction to pain and its severity, and apply pharmacological and non-pharmacological pain management; (D.U24) U14: is able to prepare and administer medications to patients in various ways, independently or on the orders of a doctor; (D.U26)

Learning outcomes - skills

In terms of knowledge, the graduate: W1: knows the risk factors and health hazards among patients of different ages; (D.W1) W2: knows the etiopathogenesis, clinical symptoms, course, treatment, prognosis and principles of nursing care for patients in selected diseases; (D.W2) W3: knows the principles of diagnosing and planning patient care in general, surgical, obstetric and gynecological, pediatric, geriatric, neurological and psychiatric nursing, intensive care, palliative care, long-term care; (D.W3) W4: knows the types of diagnostic tests and the rules for ordering them; (D.W4) W5: knows the rules of preparing a patient of different age and health condition for tests and diagnostic procedures. Also knows the rules of care during and after these examinations and treatments; (D.W5) W6: knows the properties of drug groups and their effects on the patient's systems and organs in various diseases depending on age and health, including side effects, interactions with other drugs and administration routes; (D.W6) W7: knows the standards and nursing procedures used in the care of patients of different ages and health conditions; (D.W7) W8: knows the patient's reactions to disease, admission to hospital and hospitalization; (D.W8) W9: knows the purpose and principles of pre-contraceptive care and the principles of planning care for a woman in physiological pregnancy; (D.W15) W10: knows the stages of physiological delivery and the rules of care for a woman during the puerperium; (D.W16)

Learning outcomes - social competencies

In terms of social competences, the graduate is ready to: K1: guiding by the good of the patient, respect the dignity and autonomy of people entrusted to care, show understanding for worldview and cultural differences and empathy in the relationship with the patient and his family; (K1) K2: respecting patient's rights; (K2.) K3: independent and reliable performance of the profession in accordance with the principles of ethics. In this respect the moral values and responsibilities in patient care; (K3) K4: responsibility for the performed professional activities; (K4) K5: consultation with experts in case of difficulties with self-contained solution to the problem; (K5.) K6: anticipating and taking into account factors influencing reactions of one own and the patient's; (K6) K7: perception and recognition of skills in terms of knowledge, skills and competencies and complementary skills deficits and learning needs. The condition for completing the course is:
- 100% attendance at lectures, practical classes, apprenticeships and delivery a self-study paper within the time limit set by the lecturer, impeccable attitude of the student
- making up for justified absences in the form agreed with the lecturer,
- extended observation of the lecturer: K1-K7 (0-10 punktów, >50%),
- evaluation by colleagues: K1-K7 (0-10 punktów, >50%).
1. Passing the lecture test (written test) (MCQ - one correct answer - 4 distractors) on the MOODLE platform. The results obtained by students are converted into grades in accordance with internal regulations adopted in the units conducting the studies.

- obtaining 60% correct answers from the final test, the scale of final grades depending on the score. The results obtained by students are converted into grades in accordance with the internal regulations adopted in the units conducting the studies:
60 % - 67% = 3,0
68% – 75% = 3,5
76% – 83% = 4,0
84% – 91% = 4,5
92% – 100% = 5,0.
Improving the integrated exam as part of the retake session – correction test (at least 60% of correct answers to a satisfactory grade).
