Specialist Care Sciences: Internal Diseases and Internal Diseases Nursing 1855-P2-CHWP-S1
Internal medicine nursing - the subject is implemented in the second year of full-time bachelor's degree in nursing in the form of lectures, practical classes, professional practice and self-study.
LECTURES are designed to equip students with up-to-date knowledge of the scope, ways and principles of nursing patients with internal medicine diseases of the circulatory, respiratory, digestive, urinary, hematopoietic systems, with metabolic diseases and non-traumatic diseases of the locomotor system.
Permanent elements discussed in lectures are: characteristics of typical patients with internal medicine conditions, the most common nursing problems of patients in particular units and conditions, the scope and directions of collecting information about the patient's condition, and nursing interventions adapted to the nursing diagnosis (from the groups of therapeutic, caring and educational interventions).
An important element is education in specific disease units - its areas and content, as well as the specifics of implementation depending on the patient's need, age, condition and level of motivation.
If a student is absent from a lecture, he/she is required to work on issues thematically related to the lecture and submit the study as indicated by the lecturer.
PRACTICAL ACTIVITIES are aimed at the acquisition by the students of the competencies necessary in the practical care of patients with internal medicine diseases in a hospital setting and under the supervision of teachers of the profession. Great emphasis is placed during the classes on the formation of an active attitude of the student towards the patient, manifested by involvement in the correct and as complete as possible recognition of his/her condition, problems, needs, and then planning and implementing nursing activities taking into account the individualized approach to the patient.
Students, based on their knowledge and abilities, improve their skills:
- establishing interpersonal contact,
- collecting data about the patient,
- making a nursing diagnosis,
- planning and documenting care,
- creative approach in practical solution of nursing problems - performing instrumental activities.
On each day of classes, a topic on practical aspects of care in selected internal medicine conditions is implemented. Practical classes for CM students in Bydgoszcz are held in the Department of Allergology, Clinical Immunology and Internal Medicine located in the Dr. J. Biziel University Hospital No. 2.
Students perform all nursing activities and procedures with the permission and under the supervision of the teachers and employed staff of the clinic) Full nursing uniform, safe changeable footwear and a clearly readable ID badge are mandatory.
- 10 hours of the practical training dimension are devoted to practicing nursing skills in the care of internal medicine patients in the conditions of a high-fidelity simulation room (HSC) using a scenario (Medical Simulation Center at Kurpinski Street).
Topics for the simulation scenarios to be carried out can be found in the PRACTICAL ACTIVITIES section in Part B of this form
SELF-TRAINING develops responsibility for one's own professional development and creativity in planning patient care. It consists of self-exploration of sources of information, assimilation of knowledge in the assigned subject area and development of a problem assignment in the form of a PowerPoint presentation. The student's study constitutes a document and is subject to archiving.
Topics for self-study assignments, evaluation criteria and rules for the submission of papers can be found in the SELF-TRAINING section in Part B of this form.
PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE is aimed at applying the previously acquired knowledge and improving the skills necessary in caring for patients, in cooperation with the therapeutic team, as well as a more complete implementation of the principles of organization of work in the ward under the supervision of a mentor (the student's supervisor at the practice).
Summer internship in internal medicine nursing (160 h) is carried out in an inpatient facility, and the clinic/department where the student carries it out should include in its name the member - "internal medicine" or "internal diseases".

Assessment criteria
The evaluation of the student during the course of internal medicine nursing is carried out on the basis of verification:
- his substantive knowledge,
- the student's ability to use substantive knowledge for practical activities in patient care (accuracy of making a nursing diagnosis and accuracy of selection and correctness of execution of nursing interventions).
- The attitude towards the obligations under the study regulations and the didactic regulations of the subject (attendance, punctuality of passing the various forms of classes).
Verification is carried out based on the following methods of evaluation:
- current assessment of preparation for classes and student activity - formative assessment - questioning during classes, student self-assessment
- evaluation of a written plan of care developed for a selected patient (nursing diagnosis and nursing actions )
- evaluation of the developed as part of the self-study problem task
- observation of student's activity during practical classes (prolonged observation, assessment of performance of actions - nursing interventions,
- check - lists (SWW )
- test (final course credit - exam ).
Assessment method and assessable learning outcomes: test - W1, W2, W3, K1 care plan - W2, W3, U1, U2, U3
self-study assignment - W2, W3, U2, U3
prolonged observation of student's activity - U1, U3, K1, K2, K3, K4 evaluation of correct execution of nursing intervention - U1, U2 debriefing - W1, W2, W3, K1 self-evaluation and evaluation by other students - U1, U2, U3, K1, K2, K3, K4
In order to be admitted to the final exam, students should meet the following criteria:
- attend classes, and in case of absenteeism, account for the absence, i.e., work it off as agreed with the instructor/subject coordinator*.
*it is advisable to work off the class with another group of students and at a time corresponding to the subject of the class in which the student was absent.
(as long as there is such a possibility);
- account for all mandatory tasks (obtaining a pass in the entrance exam, care plan from practical classes, self-study tasks).
Form of course credit - test exam.
The student, in case of failure at the exam, has the right to take a correction.
Practical placement
When organizing the internship individually (i.e., choosing a non-university facility or doing the internship in advance, outside of the dates established top-down), the student himself must obtain the relevant approvals:
- preliminary written approval of the management division of the institution (Chief Nurse/Director of Nursing/Director of the institution) - PLACE for confirmation of approval on the application for referral to practice/cooperation/agreement is SIGNATURE OF THE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE TRAINING UNIT
- consent of the person responsible for the realization of the internship in the field of INTERNATURAL NURSING (A. Dowbór-Dzwonka, M.Sc.) - after verification of the chosen institution (does not apply to institutions with concluded agreement) and the person of the mentor (SIGNATURE SEAT confirming consent to the application to Ms.Dean of WNoZ to conclude an agreement with the selected facility / to establish cooperation / to issue a referral).
