Therapeutic education is an important field of modern medicine and health care. This subject is aimed at familiarizing students with the principles of conducting education therapeutic, providing information about resources that supports human functioning in the area health promotion and shaping the skills necessary for conducting therapeutic education in various situations health and diverse groups of recipients. The basic principles of therapeutic education will be discussed with emphasis of the therapeutic educations process, communication and improvement of cooperation with patient.
Total student workload
Study hours involving teacher participation – 15h:
1.lectures - 5 hours (including 5 hours realized in the form of e-learning);
2. practical classes - 10 hours.
The workload associated with classes requiring direct participation of academic teachers is 60 hours, which corresponds to 2 ECTS.
Study hours involving individual student work:
1. Collection and selection of appropriate training materials - 5 hours;
2. Self-education - 10 hours;
3. Reading literature - 10 hours;
Preparation for the exam – 5h.
Participation in consultations – 3h.
The total student workload is 48 hours, which corresponds to 2 ECTS.
Learning outcomes - knowledge
Student knows:
W1: psychological and social aspects of therapeutic education as an element of supportive attitudes and activities (B.W2)
W2: models of communication in health care, basic communication skills with the patient and members of the interdisciplinary therapeutic team (B.W3)
W3: basic issues in the field of therapeutic education (B.W6)
W4: the principles of motivating patients to pro-health behavior and informing about unfavorable prognosis, the importance of verbal and non-verbal communication in the process of communicating with patients and the concept of trust in interaction with the patient (B.W4)
W5: limitations, conditions and principles of therapeutic education of people with disabilities (B.W7)
W6: basic forms and methods of providing information with the use of teaching aids in the field of teaching physiotherapy, training and professional development (B.W8)
W7: principles of health education and health promotion and elements of social policy concerning health protection (B.W12)
Learning outcomes - skills
Student can:
U1: apply appropriate forms of therapeutic and educational proceedings supporting the process of revalidation of a person with a disability (B.U3)
U2: organize activities aimed at health education, health promotion and disability prevention (B.U4)
U3: conduct a conversation with an adult patient, a child and the patient's family using the technique of active listening and expressing empathy, as well as talk with the patient about his health situation in an atmosphere of trust during the entire physiotherapeutic procedure (B.U10)
Learning outcomes - social competencies
Student is ready to:
K1: establishing and maintaining respectful contact
with the patient, as well as showing understanding for worldview and cultural differences (K1)
K2: practice the profession, being aware of the role that the physiotherapist plays for the benefit of society, including the local community (K2)
K3: implementing the principles of professional camaraderie and cooperation in a team of specialists, including representatives of other medical professions, also in a multicultural and multi-national environment (K7)

Lectures will be contucted remotely by moodle.umk.pl platform and BigBlueButton – at least 50% of classes will be conducted in remote synchronous mode

Assessment criteria
The subject ends with a test - 20 questions, closed assignments, 1 point per question. The condition for passing the test is obtaining a minimum of 60% of correct answers.

16 - 17 –> 4,0
18 -> 4,5
19 - 20 –> 5,0
The basis for passing the lectures is the compulsory reading of
their content on Moodle platform.
The basis for passing the practical is 100% attendance and
completion of tasks on-time prepared by the lecturer.
The basis for passing the self-study is reading research
papers.
