Pharmacy Practice: History of Pharmacy

The lectures are intended to:
- familiarize students with knowledge of the history of pharmacy from prehistoric times to the mid-20th century AD,
- cause students to understand the processes occurring in the field of pharmacy (proto-pharmacy) from around 3000-2500 BC to the beginning of the 20th century AD,
- develop students' ability to apply knowledge related to the past of pharmacy in order to create an appropriate perspective on the current situation,
- develop students' ability to analyze processes occurring in the history of pharmacy and to synthesize data in order to draw conclusions and assess the past and the current situation,
- teach students to assess the possibilities of ancient pharmacy and, in relation to them, contemporary pharmacy,
- arouse in students greater sensitivity to the fate/fates of man and societies.
Total student workload
The workload associated with classes requiring direct participation of academic teachers is:
– participation in lectures – 15 hours,
– consultations with persons conducting classes – 5 hours,
– conducting the assessment: 2 hours.
The workload associated with classes requiring direct participation of academic teachers is 22 hours, which corresponds to 1 ECTS point.
2. Student workload balance:
– participation in lectures – 15 hours,
– preparation and supplementation of notes – 5 hours,
– required repetition of material – 5 hours,
– consultations – 2 hours,
– reading indicated literature: 4 hours
– preparation for the assessment and assessment – 10 + 2 = 12 hours.
The total student workload is 33 hours, which corresponds to 1 ECTS point.
3. Time required to prepare and participate in the assessment process:
