2.5. Surgical Aspects of Sexology

Term 2023/24:
Seminars aim to gain knowledge to identify and treat andrological and sexological diseases requiring surgical intervention, especially how to plan diagnostics, manage and cure surgically andrological and sexological illnesses, including acute conditions and trauma of genitals, penile and testicular prosthesis, partial and complete genital reconstructions, with distinction of pediatric period and urological and andrological oncology.

Learning outcomes - knowledge
(in Polish) W1: Student can explain and discus the causes, symptoms, diagnostic algorithm and therapeutic algorithm in the most common urinary tract and kidneys diseases, including: acute and chronic kidney failure, kidney glomeruli disease, interstitial nephritis, renal cysts, kidney stone disease, urinary tract infections, cancers of kidney, ureter, bladder, prostate, penis, testis, suprarenal glands. W2: Student can explain and discus the causes, symptoms, diagnostic algorithm and therapeutic algorithm of prostate disease, including: prostate cancer, benign prostate hyperplasia, erectile dysfunction as well as contraindications and complications after surgery on prostate and side effects of drugs used to treat prostate disease and erectile dysfunction (E K_W07)
W3: Student can explain and discus the causes, symptoms, diagnostic algorithm and therapeutic algorithm in case of hydration and electrolyte disbalance: dehydration, overhydration, acid-base disturbances, acidosis and alkalosis. (E K_W07)
W4: Student can explain and discus the causes, symptoms, diagnostic algorithm and therapeutic algorithm in urological and pediatric urological diseases requiring surgical intervention, especially urological emergencies. (F K_W01)
W5: Student can explain and discus the patient’s preparation and safety algorithm in the perioperative period as well as during the surgery, general and local anaesthesia and sedation. (F K_W04)
W6: Student can explain and discus the analgesic treatment and post-operative patient monitoring. (F K_W05)
Learning outcomes - skills
(in Polish) U1: Student plans urological diagnostic evaluation, therapy and prophylaxis. (E K_U16)
U2: Student interprets laboratory exam and identifies its correlation with urological disorders (E K_U24)
U3: Student identifies inclusion and exclusion criteria to perform suprapubic catherization and assists during such procedure. (F K_U23)
U4: Student can explain the algorithm of performing endoscopic procedures and assists during such surgeries (both curative and diagnostic) (F K_U24)
U5: Student can explain the reasons for and the algorithm of performing open and laparoscopic surgeries and assists during such surgeries. (F K_U24)
U6 Student can explain the algorithm of performing andrological surgeries and procedures under control of ultrasound (prostate biopsy, kidney biopsy, nephrostomy tube placement) and assists during such surgeries. (F K_U24)
