2.1. Anatomy, Physiology of Cardiovascular System

The aim of the subject „Cardiovascular system anatomy and physiology” is to remind and systematize student`s knowledge about structure of the heart, coronary circulation and conduction system before starting physical examination and diagnosing patients. During seminars normal pictures of the heart and coronary arteries gained in ultrasonography and coronary angiography will be presented. Teaching of this subject aims to prepare students to efficient interpretation of physical examination and normal results such as: ECG, exercise test, coronary angiography, cardiac perfusion scintigraphy, computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging of the heart.

Learning outcomes - knowledge
W1 – student knows structure of the human body in terms of topography of chest and function of cardiovascular system (A.W2)
W2 – student knows and understands functions and regulation mechanisms of all human organs and systems, including the cardiovascular (B.W21)

U1 – student explains the anatomical basis of physical examination (A.U3)
U2 – student draws conclusions on relationships between anatomical structures on the basis of diagnostic examinations, particularly in the scope of radiology (plain x-ray imaging, imaging using contrast agents, computed tomography and nuclear magnetic resonance) (A.U4)
U3 – student performs simple function tests evaluating the human organism as a stable regulation system (exercise stress tests); interpret numerical data related to basic physiological variables (B.U7)

Assessment criteria
To pass the „Cardiovascular system anatomy and physiology” course student has to take part in all of seminars and pass the final test.
The final test consists of 4 questions which concern problems raised during lecture and seminars (W1-W2) and require skills listed in points U1-U3.
Passing the test is necessary to proceed to the exam in the subject „Cardiovascular diseases”
