Tutorials are aimed at acquiring practical skills in the following areas: assessment of the patient's mental state, proper interviewing of the patient in order to make a diagnosis, differentiation of individual mental disorders and organic disorders by using various methods such as neuroimaging, laboratory tests and EEG. Students improve their skills in the pharmacological treatment of individual mental disorders, the use of psychotherapy and other treatment methods, e.g. electroconvulsive therapy (ECT). Students practically improve the management of emergencies related to mental disorders such as: suicidal behavior, aggressive behavior and other threatening situations, acute psychotic disorders, anxiety panic syndromes and urgent complications of psychopharmacology.

Term 2022/23:
Tutorials develop practical skills in evaluation of mental state and conducting interview, differentiation among possible mental disorders and organic/somatic illnesses using diagnostic tests (neuroimaging, laboratory tests, EEG, psychological and neuropsychological assessment). Students improve skills in planning psychopharmacological treatment, psychotherapy and other non-pharmacological methods (i.e. electroconvulsive therapy). Also, students develop their skills in managing psychiatric emergencies: suicidal attempts, aggressive behaviours, acute psychotic symptoms, delirium, panic attacks, complicated abstinence syndrome or life-threatening complications of psychiatric treatment.

U1: can conduct an interview with an adult, including an elderly person, using skills on the content, process and perception of communication, taking into account the biomedical perspective and the patient's perspective (H.U.25)
U2: can conduct an interview with the child and his/her caregivers, using skills concerning the content, process and perception of communication, taking into account the biomedical perspective and the patient's perspective (H.U.26)
U3: conducts an interview in a life-threatening situation using the SAMPLE scheme (H.U.27)
U4: performs a complete and targeted physical examination of the adult tailored to the specific clinical situation (H.U.28)
U5: performs a complete and targeted physical examination of the child from the neonatal to adolescent period, adapted to the specific clinical situation (H.U.29)
U6: can convey unfavorable information using a selected protocol (e.g. SPIKES, EMPATHY, ABCDE), including supporting the family in the process of a patient's death with dignity and informing the family about the patient's death (H.U.30)
U7: obtains information from team members respecting their diverse opinions and specialist competences, incorporates this information into the patient's diagnostic and therapeutic plan, and applies ATMIST, RSVP/ISBAR protocols (H.U.31)
U8: can conduct a psychiatric examination of the patient and assess his or her mental state (H.U.32)

Prerequisites
Students commencing education in the subject of psychiatry should have the knowledge and practical skills acquired during education in the field of clinical sciences of the fifth year of studies – in the field of psychiatry.

Prolonged follow-up (>60%): K1- K8
The final grade from Psychiatry is formulated based on active attendance in classes each day of the course, as well as a positive grade from the practical test on the last day of the course.
A positive social competence assessment of the student is also required.
