Seminars: The aim of the course is to provide knowledge, practical skills and social competence on diseases in adults. Prepare students to: Plan diagnosis, treatment prophylaxis both primary and secondary. Plan and analyze diagnostic tests. Techniques of medical history taking and physical examination.
Tutorials: The aim of the course is to provide knowledge, practical skills and social competence on diseases in adults. Prepare students to: Plan diagnosis, treatment prophylaxis both primary and secondary. Plan and analyze diagnostic tests. Techniques of medical history taking and physical examination.
Lectures: Training of practical issues connected with taking history, signs and symptoms assessment. Training of basic practical procedures. Training of differential diagnosis. Interpretation of basic lab tests, imaging studies and basics of ECG.

W01 – student knows and understands causes, symptoms, complications, and principles of diagnosis and treatment of the most common internal diseases in adults.
W02: correlations between factors affecting the balance of biological processes and physiological and pathophysiological changes (B.W25)
W03 - student knows and understands possibilities of modern telemedicine as a tool supporting the practice of medicine (B.W28)
W04 - enumerates the clinical manifestations of the most common diseases of individual organs and systems, metabolic diseases, and water-electrolyte and acid-base imbalance (C.W34)
W05 - student knows and understands environmental and epidemiological determinants of the most common diseases (E.W1)
Learning outcomes - skills
U01 – student performs a medical interview with an adult patient (E.U1)
U02– student performs a full and targeted physical examination of an adult patient (EK_U3)
U03 – student can evaluate a patient’s general condition and level of consciousness and awareness (E.U7)
U04 - student can diagnose life threatening conditions like ventricular fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia, bradyarrhythmia, cardiogenic shock (E.U14)
U05 – student performs basic medical procedures, including:
1) taking temperature (core and peripheral) and pulse, non-invasive pressure measurement,
2) monitoring vital signs using a cardiac monitor, pulse oximeter
3) standard resting electrocardiogram with interpretation, electrical cardioversion, defibrillation (E.U29)
U06 - U04 – student collects samples for laboratory testing (E.U28)
U07- student can critically analyse medical literature, including English-language literature, and draws conclusions on the basis of available literature (D.U17)

Basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology is necessary to attend the course.

Assessment criteria
To pass the course student must take part in all of classes and seminars and pass the final test. The final test (oral or written exam) consists of questions, which concern problems raised during lectures and seminars and require skills listed in points W1-W5, U3, U4, U6 .

100% attendance at classes is required. A student may have 20% of justified absences (sick leave). In the event of a larger number of absences, the course coordinator decides on the criteria for admission to the course.
