W1 lists the clinical forms of the most common acute and chronic surgical diseases of individual systems and organs, metabolic diseases and disorders of water, electrolyte and acid-base balance; :: C K_W33

Learning outcomes - skills
U1 performs a full and targeted physical examination of an adult patient; E K_U03
U2. can perform basic procedures and medical procedures in the surgical ward, including:
- body temperature measurement, heart rate measurement, non-invasive blood pressure measurement,
- monitoring of vital signs using a cardiomonitor, pulse oximetry,
- introduction of the oropharyngeal tube,
- intravenous, intramuscular and subcutaneous injections, peripheral vein cannulation, peripheral venous blood collection, blood cultures collection, arterial blood sampling, arterialized capillary blood collection,
- collecting swabs from the nose, throat and skin, puncture of the pleural cavity,
- bladder catheterisation in men and women, gastric tube probing, gastric lavage, enema, E K_U29
U3. assists in the typical surgery of general surgery, can prepare the operating field and anesthetize the local surgical area; F K_U01

1. Knowledge of human anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology.
2. Knowledge of pathophysiology
3. Ability to perform basic patient examination
1. Each student must have a set of hospital clothes (white scrubs and/or skirt, lab coat, change
of shoes. Students wearing casual clothes will not be allowed to participate in clinical
activities.
2. Due to the specifics of work at a surgical ward, please limit the amount of jewelry worn, please
wear your hair tied back and take care to have clean, clipped, unpainted nails.
3. Due to sanitary considerations, your set of hospital clothes should be clean and pressed during
clinical activities. Students in contaminated / crumpled clothes will not be allowed on surgical
wards.
4. Students are required to observe workplace safety rules.
5. Students are required to maintain patient – physician confidentiality and to keep any medical
data in strict confidence. It is unacceptable to discuss clinical cases in public places (e.g.
cafeterias, hallways, elevators) for this could compromise patient – doctor confidentiality.
