Introduction to Surgery
1655-Lek3PCHI-J
The objective of the lectures is to convey to the students the basic concepts of general surgery, patient preparation for burgery, perioperative patient management, and the basics of anaesthesia and pain control . The students are acquainted with the basics of wound healing, surgical instruments and the methods for the prevention and treatment of infection. Other topics covered include: acute abdomen, bleeding, trauma, including burns, as well as the basics of endoscopy and laparoscopy.
During the tutorials the students learn practical skills covewring patient examination, small surgical procedures (suture placement and removal, catheterization and others listed in the practical skills section). During tutorials in the surgical suite, the students are acquainted with the rules of asepsis and antisepsis technique, basic surgical instruments and techniques.
