Medical Law

The lecture introduces students to the issues of history of medical law, medical profession regulation, medical confidentiality, patient rights, and medical records.
During seminars students obtain the ability to understand, analyze and interpret legal regulations concerning healthcare and
the principles and forms of conducting medical activity, using legal provisions in practice in chosen legal and ethical issues.
Total student workload
1.Workload related to the activities requiring the direct participation of academic teachers is:
- participation in lectures: 20 hours
- participation in seminars: 10 hours
The workload related to the activities requiring the direct participation of academic teachers is 30 hours, which corresponds to 1 ECTS points.
2. Student workload:
- time devoted to individual work: 10 hours
-time needed for self- study: 10 hours
The total student workload is 20 hours, which corresponds to 0.7 ECTS credits
3.Total workload: 50 h = 1.7 ECTS
Learning outcomes - knowledge
Student knows and understands:
W1 – legal regulations concerning patient rights and the Patient Rights Ombudsman as well as legal regulations important in the field of medical activity in the field of labor law, the basics of practicing the medical profession and the functioning of the medical self-government (G.W5)
W2 – legal regulations concerning medical confidentiality, criminal, civil and professional liability of a physician, principles of maintaining, storing and sharing medical documentation, including e-documentation, and personal data protection (G.W.12)
W3 – legal regulations concerning the provision of information concerning the patient's health during life and after death, taking into account the scope of information, the circle of persons authorized to obtain information and the principles of its provision to other persons, as well as limitations on the scope of information provided (G.W.20)
Learning outcomes - skills
Is able to:
U1 – explain to persons using medical services their basic rights and the legal basis for providing these services (G.U5)
U2 - prepare medical certificates for the needs of patients, their families and other entities; prepare and maintain medical documentation (in electronic and paper form) and use information and communication tools and services in health care (e-health) (G.U6)
U3 - proceed in a manner that allows for the prevention of adverse events and ensures the maintenance of quality in the protection of health and patient safety, monitor the occurrence of adverse events and respond to them, inform about their occurrence and analyze their causes (G.U8)

K2 - taking action towards the patient based on ethical principles, with awareness of social conditions and limitations resulting from
