Cell Biology with Cytophysiology
1655-Lek11BKOM-J
The lectures are aimed to acquaint of students with the current state of knowledge in the field of cell biology and cytophysilogy.
The aim of tutorials is to deepen and complement the knowledge presented during lectures. During the tutorials, the student also learns to recognize cell structures on electronograms, and receive information about the latest techniques for locating cell structures and identifying processes taking place in the cell area.
Total student workload
1.Workload associated with direct participation of academic teachers:
- lectures: 20 h
- tutorials: 20 h
- final test: 5 h
Total workload involving the direct participation of academic teachers: 45 h, which equals 1,8 of an ECTS point.
2.Total student workload:

Learning outcomes - knowledge
W1: Describes the basic cell structures (A.W2)
W2: Discusses the functional specializations of cellular structures (A.W2)
W3: Characterizes related to communication between cells and between cells and the extracellular matrix; knows intracellular signal transduction pathways (B.W16)
W4: Describes the processes: cell cycle, cell proliferation, differentiation, ageing and types of cell death (B.W17)
W5: Characterizes fundamental issues related to stem cells (B.W18)
Learning outcomes - skills
U1: Correctly operates optical microscope (A.U1)
U2: Recognizes cellular structures in electron microscope images, describes and interprets their structure (A.U2)
Learning outcomes - social competencies
K1: Is aware of one's own limitations and the need for constant education (K_K05)
K2: Consciously uses objective sources of information, including scientific articles and databases (K_K07)
K3: Attempts to formulate appropriate conclusions from microscopic observations (K_K08)
Teaching methods
Lectures:
• informational lecture
• conversational lecture
• educational discussion
Tutorials:
• didactic discussion
• practical exercises
• analysis of microscopic images
Prerequisites
A student starting education in the subject should have basic biological knowledge (high school level).

Assessment criteria
Lectures:
Final written exam (≥60%): W1 – W5
Extended observation (> 50%): K1-K2
Tutorials:
Written test: ( ≥ 60%): W1-W5
Recognizing electronograms as part of the practical part of the exam (0-10 points; ≥60%): U1-U2
Extended observation (> 50%): K1 – K3
In order to be eligible to take the final written test, the student is required to pass the written tests. A positive social competence assessment of the student is also required. The condition for taking the written exam is obtaining a positive result in the practical part of the exam.
