The purpose of the internship at the Department of Internal Medicine is to supplement the knowledge about the organization of the Department of Internal Medicine (Clinic) and the organizational connection of the Department (Clinic) with open healthcare, to improve the skills of medical history and physical examination, to familiarize with the principles of first aid, resuscitation and resuscitation, to deepen the ability to recognize and differentiation of basic disease entities, with particular emphasis on acute cases, getting acquainted with the principles of interpretation of laboratory, radiological and pathomorphological test results, participation in medical rounds. The student should actively participate in the activities of the unit where he/she carries out the practice. They should develop teamwork skills and organize workstations in accordance with legal and ethical principles.

Learning outcomes - knowledge
EW1. knows the conditions and epidemiology of diseases;
EW7. knows and understands the cause, symptoms, principles of diagnosis and treatment in order to determine the diseases occurring in adults and their occurrence:
a) circulatory system, including: ischemic heart disease, heart defects, endocardial disease, heart muscle, pericardium, heart respiratory system (acute and myocardial), arterial and venous disease, arterial hypertension: basic and internal, pulmonary hypertension,
b) diseases of the respiratory system, including: diseases of the respiratory system, diseases of the respiratory system, diseases of the respiratory system, interstitial lung diseases, pleural, mediastinal, obstructive and sleep apnea center diseases, heart of the respiratory system
(acute and southern), origin of the respiratory system,
c) diseases of the digestive system, including diseases of the oral cavity, esophagus, digestive tract and duodenum, intestine, pancreas, respiratory tract, bile ducts and gallbladder,
d) the endocrine system, including diseases of: hypothalamus and pituitary gland, thyroid gland, parathyroid glands, adrenal cortex and medulla, ovaries and testes, as well as neuroendocrine tumors, composition of polyglandular, various components and external syndrome: hypoglycaemia, composition, dyslipidemia,
e) diseases of the kidneys and urinary tract, including: acute and chronic kidney diseases, diseases of the glomeruli and interstitial cells of the neck, kidney neck, kidney stones, cystitis, cystitis, in the case of bladder cancer and kidney cancer,
f) diseases of the hematopoietic system, including: bone marrow aplasia, anaemia, granulocytopenia and agranulocytosis, thrombocytopenia, acute leukemia, myeloproliferative and myelodysplastic-myeloproliferative neoplasms, myelodysplastic syndromes, neoplasms from mature B and T lymphocytes, bleeding disorders, thrombophilia, hematology, blood disorders in diseases of other organs;
g) rheumatic diseases, including: systemic connective tissue diseases, systemic vasculitis, arthritis with involvement of the spine, metabolic bone diseases, in particular osteoporosis and osteoarthritis, gout,
h) allergic diseases, including: anaphylaxis and anaphylactic shock and angioedema,
i) water-electrolyte and acid-base disorders: dehydration, overhydration, electrolyte disorders, acidosis and alkalosis;
EW8. knows and understands the course and symptoms of the aging process and the principles of comprehensive geriatric assessment and interdisciplinary care of the elderly patient;
E.W9. understands the causes and knows the basic differences in the most common diseases of the elderly and the rules of conduct in basic geriatric syndromes;
E.W10. knows and understands the basic principles of pharmacotherapy of diseases of the elderly;
E.W11. knows and understands the risks associated with hospitalization of the elderly;
E.W12. knows and understands the basic principles of organizing care for an elderly person and the burdens of an elderly caregiver;
E.W37. knows the types of biological materials used in laboratory diagnostics and the principles of collecting material for testing;
E.W38. knows the theoretical and practical basics of laboratory diagnostics;
E.W39. knows and understands the possibilities and limitations of laboratory tests in emergencies;

E.U28. collects material for tests used in laboratory diagnostics;

a) body temperature measurement, pulse measurement, non-invasive blood pressure measurement,
b) monitoring of vital signs using a cardiomonitor, pulse oximetry,
c) spirometry test, oxygen treatment,
d) intravenous, intramuscular and subcutaneous injections, cannulation of peripheral veins, collection of peripheral venous blood,
e) taking swabs from the nose, throat and skin,
f) bladder catheterization in women and men, gastric probing, gastric lavage, enema,
g) standard resting electrocardiogram with interpretation, electrical cardioversion and cardiac defibrillation,
h) simple strip tests and blood glucose measurement;
E.U30. assists in carrying out the following procedures and medical treatments:
a) transfusion of blood and blood products,
b) drainage of the pleural cavity,
c) puncture of the peritoneal cavity,
d) skin tests,
e) intradermal and scarification tests and interpret their results;
E.U31. interprets pharmaceutical characteristics of medicinal products and critically evaluates advertising materials concerning drugs;
E.U32. plans specialist consultations;
E.U37. recognizes the patient's agony and declares his death;
E.U38. keeps the patient's medical records.
