Gynaecology and Obstetrics

The subject of gynecology and obstetrics is designed to acquire and consolidate knowledge in the field of physiology, pathology of pregnancy, management of various diseases during pregnancy, acquisition of knowledge about physiological and pathological childbirth. In addition, learning methods include issues in the field of physiology of the reproductive organ of a woman and the most common diseases: cancer, inflammation, urogynecological disorders and include issues of infertility, contraception, physiology and pathology of puberty, climacteric.
In addition, the student gains knowledge about selected issues related to the physiology and pathology of the newborn.
The exercises include the acquisition of practical skills in the management of gynecological diseases and in the conduct of pregnancy and childbirth. In addition, they include the performance and interpretation of additional examinations (CTG, ultrasound), as well as, as far as possible, participation or assistance for surgical procedures.
Exercises include participation in the diagnostic and therapeutic process in the laboratories and clinics of the gynaecology and obstetrics clinic.
Part of the exercises is carried out using simulation methods.
Total student workload
1. The workload related to classes requiring the direct participation of academic teachers shall be:
- participation in exercises: 60 hours
- consultations: 2 hours
- passing: 1 hour
The workload related to classes requiring the direct participation of academic teachers is
63 hours, equivalent to 2.52 ECTS credits
2. Balance of the student's workload:
- participation in exercises: 60 hours (3 hours – Medical Simulation Center)
- consultations: 2 hours
- preparation for exercises (including reading the indicated literature): 30 hours
- preparation for passing and passing: 7 + 1 = 8 hours

3. The amount of work related to the conducted scientific research:
- reading the indicated scientific literature: 3 hours
- participation in exercises (taking into account the results of scientific studies in the field of gynecology): 4 hours
- preparation for passing (including scientific studies in the field of gynecology): 2 hours
- consultations taking into account scientific studies in the field of gynecology): 1 hour
Total student effort related to the conducted scientific research is 10 hours, which corresponds to

4. Time required to prepare for and participate in the assessment process:
- preparation for passing: 4 +0,5 = 4.5 hours

Prerequisites
The student should have the knowledge required for the exam conducted for the 5th year, including physiological and pathological childbirth. Selected issues from the pathology of pregnancy, anatomy, physiology and diseases of the reproductive organ - conducting the diagnostic and therapeutic process.

Assessment criteria
Passing with grade. Oral answer – 10 questions, a correct answer to 6 questions is required to pass.
Passing is based on 100% attendance at classes and activity during exercises, the ability to solve diagnostic and therapeutic problems based on specific cases of patients. An assistant conducting exercises in wards, laboratories and clinical clinics makes an individual assessment of the student during classes.
