Lectures in the field of neonatology are intended to present the principles of physiological newborn care, present the principles and benefits of breastfeeding, newborn screening tests, implement a preventive vaccination program in the neonatal period, and perform mandatory procedures in the neonatal period. They will also discuss the organization of the newborn care system, depending on the degree of reference of the departments.
Seminars will focus on the analysis of selected problems in the field of newborn pathology (jaundice in newborns, serological conflict, respiratory distress syndrome, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, necrotizing enterocolitis, meconium aspiration syndrome, newborn with low birth rate, patent ductus arteriosus, apnea in premature infants, therapeutic hypothermia, pulmonary hypertension in the newborn)
Tutorials are devoted to acquiring practical skills in supporting the newborn's adaptation period and acquiring skills in basic resuscitation activities in the newborn (classes at the Medical Simulation Center)
In the Department of Neonatology, students will acquire skills in the field of subjective and objective examination of a newborn; using medical records, developmental norm tables, percentile charts, Ballard scale. The treatment of the newborn after delivery depending on the clinical condition, the assessment of birth injuries, transitional states in newborns, the problems of newborns born to diabetic mothers, the differentiation of causes of respiratory failure, the principles of treatment of respiratory failure will be discussed: non-invasive: NCPAP, HFNC, invasive - ventilator ventilation.

Term 2024/25:
The subject neonatology aims to acquire basic knowledge about the physiology and pathology of the newborn, including prematurely born newborns. The student will acquire the skills to assess the health condition of the newborn, perform a physical examination of the newborn, interpret the results of laboratory and imaging tests, learn methods of proper nutrition of newborns and the principles of preventive health care necessary to maintain health and support proper development from neonatal age. |
