Overview of Hinduism in its historical development, the characteristics of basic deities, the rites of Hinduism and their reflection in art. Presentation of the assumptions of Buddhism with a distinction between Theravada, Mahayana and Vajrayana. Discussion of Jainism and the assumptions of Jain art. Characteristics of Islam and the assumptions of Islamic aesthetics. Iconography of the basic deities of Hinduism. Iconography of Buddhism. Iconography of Jainism. Basic forms of Islamic religious buildings.

The student
W1: has advanced knowledge of the main Asian religions and art associated with them (K_W02)
W2: knows the terminology, theory and methodology of research in the field of Asian religious art (K_W06)
W3: is familiar with Asian religious beliefs and philosophical systems – Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Islam – which influence contemporary global art and culture (K_W10)
W4: is acquainted with the methods of description, analysis and interpretation of religious objects from Asia (K_W11)

The student
U1: is able to recognise and date religious works of Asian art (K_U05)
U2: is capable of interpreting a religious work originating in Asia, using knowledge of culture, religion and iconography. (K_U07)
U3: has advanced skills in developing and presenting the results of work in writing (K_U10).
U4: can analyse, recognise and date religious works of Asian art (K_U05)

The student
K1: understands the significance of ideas (social and others) and their relationship with phenomena in Asian religious art (K_K05)
K2: is aware of the values that the world cultural heritage contributes to the present day, including religious art and artistic culture outside Europe (K_K07)
K3: is aware of the responsibility to preserve Asian cultural heritage (K_K06)

Lecture: oral test in the given range W 1-4, K 1-3.
Exercises: presence, activity, a paper and an oral answer from the given range. W4, U 1-4, the final grade is the result of the above student activities.
