Matters of Contemporary Art and the Process of Conservation 1402-OG-EN-M-L-X
As growing number of contemporary object needs more or less deep conservation treatment it is crucial to broaden understanding of the material, technique, their connection with artistic idea, as well as establishing proper methods of conservation. For the reason of totally different material as well as of new philosophy of the work of art in the 20th century. Old solutions established for traditional art are no longer sufficient. Within the lecture attempt will be made to present the evolution of basic materials: supports, pigments, dyes and binders as well as introduction of wholly new materials based on synthetic polymers building modern and contemporary works of art and problems resulting with implementing new non traditional techniques of execution. Some case studies of conservation, as well as of transporting and handling during the exhibition underlining new challenges will be shown as well. Examples will base on literature and in significant part on the own experience gained during working as conservator in the Centre of Contemporary Art in Toruń.
