4/ Global challenges: environment, climate change and human rights - 2 h
5/ Protection of private and family life - defining current challenges - 2 h
6/ Freedom of assembly and freedom of expression (with a focus on hate speech and disinformation) - 2 h
7/ Right to life and freedom from torture (with focus on an absolute nature and new forms of torture) – 2 h
8/ Deprivation of liberty (pre-trial detention, criminal sentence, administrative detention) – 2 h
9/ Right to fair trial (with focus on judicial independence and “equality of arms”) – 2 h

Total student workload

Contact hours with teacher: 1/ contact hours (lecture) - 20 h Self-study hours: 2/ studying terminology, basic notions and concepts of the subject - 50 h; 2/ analysis of judgments of the European Court of Human Rights, CJEU and other human rights protection bodies- 50 h 3/ preparation for classess and assessment- 30 h Altogether: 150 hrs (6 ECTS)

Learning outcomes - knowledge

W1 - student has a thorough understanding of the principles and structures of the universal and European human rights protection systems W2 - student has knowledge concerning the contemporary problems of human rights protection and how they are addressed and adjudicated by human rights protection bodies; W3 - student is familiar with the English language terminology concerning the topic; W4 - student acquires knowledge concerning the idea of human rights, their interpretation, implementation and application; W5 - student is familiar with the leading judgments of the European Court of Human Rights (and other human rights protection bodies) and their domestic impact

Learning outcomes - skills

U1 - student is able to interpret standards in the domain of human rights protection and analyse the normative instruments on the subject; U2 - student can critically approach both the normative standards and the case-law; U3 - student is able to deliver oral and written comments, share opinions concerning particular issues addressed during the lecture

K1 - student understands the importance of the European and universal protection of human rights and their impact on domestic systems; K2 - the student is prepared for competent discussions concerning contemporary problems of human rights protection
