Contemporary legal and international problems in Latin America 1300-OG-CI-IL-KPP
Lectures and discussion seminars focuses on 3 main subjects:
1. First, basic information about the continent and countires
2. Second, reading and discussion about primary literature provided by the teacher
3. Third, discussion about particular problems related to Latin America. Students choose 2 or 3 subjects which will be covered during classes.
Tentative structure of classses:
1. Introduction of various states in Latin America and their legal problems – part 1 - 2 hours
2. Introduction of various states in Latin America and their legal problems – part 2 – 2 hours
3. Civil war with FARC and peace process in Colombia - 3 hours
4. Investment and corruption problems in LA - 2 hours
5. Territorial disputes among LA States - 2 hours
6. Status of underwater treasures and shipwrecks – case of Galleon San Jose discovered near Cartagena - 2 hours
7. Legal situation of Venezuelan Government and refugee crisis - 2 hours

Assessment criteria
Assessment methods: W1, W2, W3, U1, U2, K1, K2
Written examination: single choice test including 20 questions. No negative points for incorrect answers. Student's active participation during the classes/discussion is a subsidiary mean of assessment and allows to raise the sum of points. Students are obliged to prepare for classes (reading materials) and also prepare presentation about chosen subject.

Thresholds of marks:
very good: 17-20 pts. (85 – 100 %)
good plus: 15-16 pts. (75-85 %)
good: 12-14 pts. (60-75 %)
satisfactionary plus: 10-11 pts (50-60 %)
satisfactionary: 8- 9 pts. (40-50 %)
fail: 0-7 (0 – 40 %)
