The scope of the course covers the following topics:
1. Introduction to Knowledge Management (the nature of knowledge, knowledge resources hierarchy, what business organisation should know, defining Knowledge Management, KM dimensions and solutions)
2. Knowledge Management and company competitiveness (Knowledge Based Economy, competitive advantage of nations, knowledge as a source of competitive advantage, Knowledge Management and organisational strategy)
3. Knowledge Management process (establishing KM goals, knowledge identification, acquisition, development, distribution, use, preservation, measurement)
4. Knowledge Management determinants and mechanisms (KM determinants, mechanisms of internal knowledge markets)
5. Knowledge Management tools and systems (for organising knowledge, capturing knowledge, evaluating knowledge, sharing knowledge, storing and presenting knowledge)
6. Knowledge Management and organisational culture (organisational culture, cultural determinants of Knowledge Management, creating knowledge-sharing culture, communities of practice)
7. Organisational learning and learning organisation (organisational learning, Lessons Learned, inter-firm learning, the concept of the learning organisation, the Senge’s disciplines of the learning organisation, organisational learning disability)
8. Intellectual capital (defining intellectual capital, IC frameworks, measuring IC)
The classes incorporate the Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) philosophy aimed at developing language skills when learning and teaching content knowledge and skills. The emphasis is placed on developing the following academic English skills: listening to the lectures and note taking, extensive reading, presentation skills, participating in discussions, writing reports and producing PPT presentations.
Total student workload
Classes requiring direct participation of the teacher – lecture and practical classes: 30 hrs.
Self-study: Learning for the final examination: 30 hrs.
Self-study: Preparation for the project: reading assignments, producing and delivering in-class presentations: 15 hrs.
Self-study: Projects in companies incl.: understanding analysis requirements, negotiating analysis outcomes with companies, collecting data, conducting analysis, developing recommendations and remedial action plans: 50 hrs.

A student knows, understands and considers – from the perspective of management theory – knowledge management processes in organisations and their environment (including global environment), the sources of knowledge, the relations between knowledge management processes, basic terminology concerning intellectual capital, the concept of the knowledge-based economy and the long-term consequences (outcomes) of knowledge management processes (K_W02_M_02)
W4. A student knows, understands and considers selected methods and tools of measuring knowledge resources and knowledge management assessment (K_W04_M_03)
W5. A student knows human behaviours determining knowledge management and positive organisational potential (K_W06_M_03)
W6. A student knows, understands and considers – from the perspective of management theory – the processes of implementing knowledge management solutions in organisations and their functional areas (K_W08_M_04)

Lectures
The assessment of achieving learning outcomes related to knowledge is based on a written examination. The scope of the examination includes the issues covered during the lectures and knowledge from reading assignments. The following assessment scale is applied:
very good (5.0) – from 92% to 100%;
good plus (4.5) – from 84% to 91%;
good (4.0) – from 76% to 83%;
satisfactory plus (3.5) – from 68% to 75%;
satisfactory (3.0) – from 60% to 67%;
fail – from 0% to 59%.
A written examination validates the achievement of learning outcomes to the following degree:

Practical classes:
The assessment of achieving learning outcomes related to skills and competences is based on student projects conducted in real life companies. Project teams are to deliver PPT presentations and reports.
