30 h lectures 30 h tutorials Students are expected to invest at least three times the lecture and tutorial duration in private study: 180 h.

Learning outcomes - knowledge

W1: K_W01 - has deeper knowledge in the physics of gravitation; W2: K_W03 - knows that time is not absolute and that Minkowski spacetime is a first step needed to understand the spacetime in which galaxies are located and observed; W3: K_W08 - knows general principles of developing individual activities that benefit from knowledge of relativistic physics and mathematics

U1: K_U04 - is aware of terrestrial surface detections of muons as evidence for Minkowski spacetime U2: K_U07 - is competent in English at the level needed for reading and understanding elementary scientific literature on special relativity, consistently with the requirements defined at level B2+ in the European System Describing Language Education

K1: K_K01 - understands the cognitive challenge in developing spacetime intuition and calculational abilities that bypass the implicit assumption of an absolute time coordinate and absolute spatial reference frame

Assessment criteria

Numerical calculations from a set of questions generated from an N-dimensional parameter space where N is much greater than 10. The exercises and exam are set from the statistically same set of question families, with stricter conditions in the exam mode. Both exercises and exam are written. Each student is given rapid feedback and may ask for new questions in order to improve his/her score without limit, apart from the total time available. The assessed exercise time is limited to the allotted 30 hours. The expected examination time is about 2-3 hours, but students may continue to a maximum of 6.5 hours. Grades are rounded using the "round half to even" algorithm.
