Master Proseminar 0800-PROSMGR

Each student attending the proseminar prepares and presents two speeches on issues of the field she/he studies and of her/his graduation work. Each speech must be assisted by a slide show presentation.
In addition to the competence level special attention is paid to:
1) formal construction of the speech,
2) proper preparation of slides,
3) meaningful and incisive conclusions,
4) time frames,
5) ability to attract and maintain attention of the audience.

Each speech is followed by a discussion, which is another important element of the proseminar. The discussion concerns
1) content-related problems and then
2) technical aspects of the presentation.

Total student workload

60 hours including: – 22 hours in contact with a teacher (20 hours of seminar and 2 hours of tutorial) – 38 hours of own (unassisted) work: searching for information, studying, preparing slides, and writing papers

W1 – a student has got in-depth knowledge of the discipline in which he prepares his master thesis (K_W01 – K_W04, K_W06 for Astronomy; K_W02 – K_W06 for Physics; K_W01 – K_W04 for Technical physics; K_W01 – K_W03 and K_W06 for Informatics)

U1 – student is capable of finding by himself the information in polish and english literature of the subject (K_U06 for Astronomy, K_U04 for Physics and Technical Physics; K_U01 for Informatics) U2 – student is capable of presenting in an oral way and written form results of his own research or taken from literature (K_U07 for Astronomy and Technical physics; K_U06 i K_U08 for Physics; K_U02 for Informatics) U3 – student is capable of discussing and performing critical evaluation of results of his own research and of the literature data (K_U04 i K_U05 for Astronomy; K_U03 for Physics and Technical physics) U4 – student knows English to the point that enables him to use effectively the professional literature in English (K_U08 for Astronomy; K_U10 for Physics and Technical physics; K_U02 for Informatics)

It is assumed that a student entering the proseminar is familiar with a computer program for preparation of slide shows.

Assessment criteria

To get a credit the student is obliged to prepare and present two seminar presentations. The slide presentation file must be delivered to the teacher.
An evaluation is made concerning the elements mentioned in "Full description" section, student's discussion activity and meeting deadlines.

The assessment of speeches and presentations verifies W1, U1, U2, U3, U4, K1, K2, K3, K4 learning outcomes.
The assessment of student's contributions to discussions verifies U3, K1 and K2 learning outcomes.

The literature is specific to the subjects of particular students. It is chosen with assistance of their supervisors.
