Diploma seminar 0800-PA-DIPSEM

The scope of the seminar covers the topics of master's theses prepared by students. Each student delivers at least two lectures, presenting the general background of his work, its intentions and methods used, and the results obtained. Each lecture is followed by a discussion of all seminar participants on its content, and then - a discussion on the technical and formal aspects of the quality of the presentation and speech. Moreover, each student presents a written essay introducing them to the problems of their diploma thesis. This thesis, after approval by the tutor, may become a chapter of the master's thesis.

Total student workload

- 15 hours with the participation of the teacher, - 45 hours of own work on the preparation of papers, presentations, written work Total: 60 hours (2 ECTS)

W1 – student ma pogłębioną wiedzę ze szczegółowej dyscypliny, w której wykonuje pracę dyplomową (K_W01 – K_W07).

Learning outcomes - skills

U1 - the student is able to independently search for information in Polish and foreign - especially English - professional literature (K_U03 - K_U05); U2 - is able to present the results of own research and from the literature in written, oral and in a multimedia presentation, on specialist and popular level (K_U06 - K_U08); U3 - the student is able to critically evaluate and discuss the results of own and foreign research in the field studied (K_U03, K_U04, K_U06, K_U07); U4 - knows English to a degree that enables effective use of professional literature (K_U07 - K_U09); U5 - is aware of the need to meet deadlines (K_U09, K_U10, K_U12).

Learning outcomes - social competencies

K1 - knows the limitations of his own knowledge and strives to expand it (K_K01); K2 - the student is able to formulate opinions on the issues of the studied field and understand the need to popularize its achievements (K_K03, K_K05, K_K06); K3 - understands and appreciates the importance of intellectual honesty as well as research and professional integrity (K_K02).

Prerequisites

Earlier completion of the master's pro-seminar is required. A student entering the seminar must be assigned the subject of the master's thesis and its tutor.

Assessment criteria

The seminar is subject to a grade, which mainly consists of the evaluation of the papers, the evaluation of the written work, but also the evaluation of participation in the discussions on the problems presented by other participants of the seminar. The assessment also takes into account the compliance (failure to meet) the deadlines.

Papers (presentations) are assessed taking into account:
- their formal structure (including keeping the allotted time),
- transparency of presentation,
- substantive correctness of the presented content,
- manner of expression,
- the ability to focus the attention of the audience.

When assessing written works, it is particularly required:
- structure,
- precise and original wording,
- proper citation of sources.

Assessment of papers, presentations and written works verifies the achievement of the effects of W1, U1 - U5, K2 - K3.
Assessment of participation in discussions checks the achievement of the effects of U3, K1, K2, K3.
