Total student workload

Hours conducted with the participation of teachers: - participation in lectures – 30 hours Time devoted to individual student work (45 hours): - preparation for text analysis and familiarization with required reading – 20 - preparation for writing the final essay – 20 - consultations and work with an academic teacher – 5 Total: 75 hours (3 ECTS)

Learning outcomes - knowledge

W1: the student knows selected figures of outstanding Italian scientists, poets, writers and composers from the last millennium W2: is familiar with the geo-political changes in Italy in the last millennium (comuni, rinascimento, regno d’Italia) W3: is aware of the geographical differences between Italian regions in terms of culture and economic success W4: knows examples of Italian Nobel Prize winners in literature, science and medicine.

Learning outcomes - skills

U1: can independently find (and combine into a conceptual whole) works from a specific historical period U2: can identify the historical paths that have led to a certain discovery, from past premises to new tools and societal needs U3: can mention the landscape and culinary qualities of several selected regions of Italy

K1: is able to present selected issues of Italian culture and science in a competent and interesting way K2: understands the connections between the economic and cultural situation in the development of countries in general and of Italy in particular K3: understands the diversity of cultures and traditions even within a specific, modern state (generally) K4: understands the global tendency toward unification in the modern era and especially in the new age of information
