Elements of spectra line shapes theory 0800-M-ELSPELIS
The course extends the basic knowledge about the interaction of electromagnetic radiation with matter. It is devoted to an advanced method of describing the shapes of spectral lines absorbed or emitted by atoms and molecules in the gas phase. The most recent approaches for description of molecular spectra in the gas phase will be presented.
The course covers the following topics:
- a stochastic description of the motion of colliding atoms and molecules
- velocity-changing soft impact model
- speed-changing hard impact model
- Dicke narrowing
- speed-changing collisions and speed-dependent broadening and shifting of spectral lines
- correlations between velocity-changing collisions and the collision broadening and shift of spectral lines
- collisional line-mixing
- line-mixing, Dickie narrowing and speed-dependent effects
- integral description of speed-changing collisions
- matrix description of speed-changing collisions
- model of billiard balls
- collisions changing velocity, speed and direction of velocity
- ab initio line shapes calculations
