Fundamentals of bioanalytics 0600-S1-W-PB

Theoretical foundations in medicinal chemistry, drug chemistry, food chemistry. Historical outline. Terminology. Structure and properties of
the cell. Characteristics of lipids, carbohydrates, proteins, enzymes, receptors, nucleic acids. Basics of proteomics, genomics and
metobolomics. Structure of DNA and RNA. Antibodies. Chirality. Theoretical basis of selected chromatographic, electromigration,
spectroscopic, radiometric, immunological techniques, mass analyzers, ion detectors. Modern methods of analysis of bio-molecules.
Specific methods of sample preparation. Criteria of operation of research and clinical laboratories. Quality assurance systems.
Accreditation and certification of laboratories. Analytical procedures and their validation. Statistical evaluation of results.

Learning outcomes - knowledge

W1: Has a basic knowledge of chemistry and biology, its development and importance for the progress of science and life sciences and the knowledge of the world and the development of mankind. W2: Describes the basic processes of biochemistry, metabolism in the human body. W3: Characterizes the methods of determination of biologically active compounds.

Learning outcomes - skills

U1: The student uses the basic knowledge of bioanalytics, knows the methods of sample preparation and determination techniques, is able to describe the phenomena occurring in the human body, U2: Analyzes the acquired knowledge of bioanalytics from various sources and is able to argue and defend his/her position. U3: Acquires proficiency in performing calculations on the basis of data obtained from measurements by instrumental methods.

Learning outcomes - social competencies

K1: Is aware of the threat posed by xenobiotics to all living organisms, makes independent and sometimes difficult decisions regarding the acquired knowledge; is able to independently search for information in popular scientific literature related to environmental chemistry. K2: He has the ability to work independently and effectively with a large amount of information regarding the dangers of toxic substances in the environment, perceives the relationships between phenomena and correctly draws conclusions using the principles of logic. K3: The student is oriented to continuous acquisition of new knowledge, skills and experience; sees the need for continuous improvement and enhancement of professional competence; knows the limitations of his own knowledge and understands the need for further education.

Prerequisites

Elementary requirements - basics of chemistry and biology at the high school level. Prerequisites - the ability to independently search and use available sources of information and use scientific literature.
