Biopolymers 0600-S1-ChK-BioP
Lecture:
The structure of proteis present in skin , hair and nail (collagen, elastin, keratin). General protein structure. Proteins used in preparation of cosmetic formulation (silk fibroin, collagen, elastin, keratin). Polysaccharides in cosmetics, the structure of cellulose and its derivatives, hyaluronic acid, chitosan. Rheology modifiers, hydrocolloids. Biopolymers obtained using biotechnology: bacterial cellulose.
Laboratory:
1. Determination of the dynamic viscosity of gelatin by means of Höppler viscometer.
2. Evaluation of water absorption for different biopolymer films.
3. Determination of the degree of deacetylation of chitosan by means of Broussignac method.
4. Determination of amylose content in starch of different botanical origin.
5. Synthesis and characteristic of dialdehyde starch.
6. Determination of the polymerization degree of cellulose.
7. Studies of physical properties of hydrocolloids.
