Lecture:
Overview of the primary groups of natural active compounds, their naming rules, and the INCI nomenclature. Summary of the direct biosynthesis routes of selected natural substances and pharmacogenomic raw materials. Characteristics of secondary substances: flavonoids, alkaloids, terpenes, glycosides, essential oils, antibiotics, and vitamins. Isolation of active compounds from natural sources. Methods of characterizing active compounds

Laboratory - timetable:
1. Introduction to the basic methods of isolation of natural active substances.
2. Isolation and characterization of piperine from black pepper.
3. isolation and characterization of ginger oil.
4. Isolation and characterization of quercetin from onion peels.
5. Preparation and characterization of alginian balls.
6. Isolation and characterization of caffeine from tea.
7. Rehab and Passing Lab.

Total student workload

1. 10h lecture, 35h laboratory, ie 45 contact hours, 2. 40h individual work, 3. 40h time required for preparation in the assessment process, 4. Total student workload is 125 hours 125h:25h/ECTS = 5ECTS.

Learning outcomes - knowledge

W1: Student knows the basic groups of cosmetic natural active compounds and methods of obtaining them - K_W05. W2: Student knows the basic methods of organic synthesis used in the synthesis of natural active compounds - K_W06. W3: Student has knowledge about regulations and principles of safe work in laboratory, and legal regulations concerning toxic substances and their storage and labelling - K_W09. W4: Student has the knowledge to understand the basic problems related to the topics of study - K-W11.

U1: Students can analyze and solve chemical and biological problems based on knowledge gained -K_U01 U2: Students can plan an experiment and use equipment for the realization of a particular research task -K_004 U3: Students can apply basic analytical methods used in chemical and biomedical sciences and elaborate on experimental results - K_U05. U4: Students can synthesize and analyze chemical compounds, including biologically active - K_U06. U5: Students can determine the structure and function of macromolecular compounds in living organisms - K_U07. U6: can independently and in a group broaden the knowledge of selected specialization - K_U09.
