The idea of mixture separation 0600-OG-EN-IMS
The lecture starts with general considerations on separation and the different meanings of this term (in various fields of everyday life). The final discussion of separation will focus on its importance in chemistry. Next, basic information about substances: elements, compounds, and their mixtures will be discussed. Further, it deals with states of the matter and their properties to move into the classical separation of mixtures that apply different properties of substances. Classical methods discussed include distillation, filtration in various scales, the role of gravity in separation etc. An important part of the lecture deal with the separation of natural mixtures.
Second part focus on separations in molecular scales, including processes taking place on the surfaces and in an electric field.
During the lecture it will be presented the path of ideas from classical separation methods to the most subtle one, the chromatography.
